Based on the railway building at Glen Aplin on Queensland’s Granite Belt, this characterful timber goods shed features weatherboard walls, a raised loading platform and an unusual fibre-cement shingle roof—a distinctive alternative to the corrugated iron commonly seen on Queensland railway buildings.
The large goods doors are modelled open, creating a convincing impression of depth and providing plenty of opportunities for a busy loading scene with railway workers, produce cases, parcels, drums or hand trolleys. A separate door and platform at the rear ensure the building has interesting detail on every side.
Subtle imperfections in the timber walls will respond beautifully to painting and weathering, helping the finished model appear suitably aged. Although based on Glen Aplin, this versatile goods shed would suit many Queensland railway stations, branch lines and regional scenes.
