Based on the surviving gatekeeper’s house at Glen Aplin in Queensland’s Granite Belt, this characterful model represents the modest railway residences once found beside country lines and level crossings.
The house features high timber stumps, a front verandah with steps and balustrading, detailed window hoods and a corrugated-iron roof. At the rear, a separate kitchen section is connected to the main house by a covered walkway, accompanied by external corrugated water tanks.
The building is printed on a base that keeps the slender stumps straight and secure during handling and shipping. The base can be incorporated into level ground or set into a sloping landscape so that the house appears naturally settled into the surrounding scenery.
A distinctive Australian building suitable for Queensland railway layouts, rural town scenes and historical dioramas.
